Since 1963, the C.Y.O. has operated a summer day camp program for children ages 6 - 13 years of age. Camp Marydale has been without a permanent home since 2003. The camp program currently operates out of selected inner-city schools in Hamilton. Camp Marydale serves able-bodied and disabled children from all economic, faith, and cultural backgrounds.
"One to One" Program for children with special needs
Marydale Park will allow the C.Y.O. to expand its existing “One-to-One” program for children with special needs. Camp Marydale has a 40-year history and a well-developed specialty in serving children with special needs, in addition to able-bodied children.
In 1972, the C.Y.O. was one of the first camps in Ontario to integrate special needs children, ages 6 to 13 years old, into our mainstream camping programs. The C.Y.O.’s unique “One-to-One” program offers short-term respite care by ensuring that a dedicated counsellor is given special training to handle the responsibility and challenges of providing assisted care to these special children while they participate in our C.Y.O. camping programs.
Benefitting over 10, 000 children with special needs
Over 10,000 children with special needs in our community have benefited from this unique “One-to-One” Program. This service is available at our residential camp, Camp Brébeuf and our inner-city summer day camps – Camp Marydale & Urban Hoops Basketball Camp. |
